It depends on your experience and current levels of fitness. Choose an event that will challenge you but is ultimately achievable. You can choose from the 5k or 10k

1. Children over 15 can enter the 10K or over 11 can enter the 5K.

• 10K minimum age limit for participants is 15 years old on the day of the event. Anyone born on or before July 16th 2011
• 5K minimum age limit for participants is 11 years on the day of the event. Anyone born on or before July 16th 2015

No. All that we ask is that any participant unsure of their physical ability to take part should seek medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.

Absolutely! You should ensure you are physically able to complete the event, it is advisable to try a few runs close to the distance you are looking to complete before the event, it’s not a race against the clock but a fun and safe way for you to find out how enjoyable running is and to hopefully start you running regularly.

You will receive the following items:

• Race number
• Timing chip (attached to number)
• Any pre-ordered event merch (t-shirts etc)
• Event Information booklet

Race information packs are being sent in batches via second-class post. The last batch will be sent on 1st July. If you entered after 30th June you will need to collect your pack on race day from the Race Information, located in the Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre (DH1 1SW).

If you entered before July 8th and you have not received your information pack by Tuesday 14th July please email info@eventsofthenorth.com

Oh no and after all that hard work too! We are sorry you are missing out on the event.
Please contact info@eventsofthenorth.com to inform the event team of your withdrawal. DO NOT PASS YOUR RACE NUMBER on to anyone else, it potentially puts them at a medical risk, we have no medical information or emergency contact details for them. Medical deferrals may be accepted if we receive medical evidence from a GP or Physio up to 4 weeks prior to the event.

Please go to RACE INFORMATION at the Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre (DH1 1SW). This will be clearly sign posted. One of the team will check your entry and issue you with an alternative race number. Please note, there is a small fee to replace your race number.

We would expect the majority of runners to complete the:
5k: 14 minutes - 50 minutes
10k: 30 minutes – 1 hour 40 minute

Yes the course does take you along public roads, but they will all be closed/segregated to traffic for the duration of the race.

There will be course signage and marshals at all key junctions to ensure you don’t get lost.

Yes there will be a range of activities available including sports massage, refreshments and music at the start and finish!

A water station will be available for the 10K participants at approximately 5km. Each runner will be provided water on completion of the race.

Some of the most successful events have happened in the rain. Our events will only be cancelled if there are severe weather conditions. Make sure you are suitably dressed for the event. If it is drizzling or cold bring a bin bag to put over your head it will keep you warmer and dry before you set off

Take a look at the event information on the website which has a map of the route and a course description including elevation profile. The course is designed to be as flat and fast as possible, but there are undulating sections.

We advise participants to run/jog or combine that with fast walking because of the length of time it would take to walk the course. However, there is no restriction at all if you would like to enter and walk

Toilets will be provided at the start/finish and at each water station on the route. Refreshments will also be available in the start/finish area for runners and spectators, more details of what can be found in the event village will be in your race packs. First aid will be available at the start/finish. Unfortunately we are unable to provide showers or changing facilities.

Your race will be chip timed. The timing chip will give you an accurate start and finish time, so there’s no rush to be first over the start line when the gun goes! You will receive a text shortly after the event is completed and you result will be available online within 48 hours.

You must collect your race number from Race Information, located in the Freeman's Quay Leisure Centre (DH1 1SW). Race Information will be open on Wednesday 15th from 10:30am - 4:00pm, and Thursday 16th from 10:30am - 15 minutes before the start of your race. Please note, Race Information is at least a 5-minute walk from the start, allow enough time to get to the start area.

A: Yes you can transfer your entry to another person before the transfer deadline (6 weeks prior to race date). Please login to your entry via your confirmation email to begin a transfer. After this date transfers are not permitted and giving your number to another person is against UK Athletics rules for health and safety reasons.

Your entry fee is invested in the cost of staging the event with the fees covering contractors, suppliers and administration costs.  The entry fee is non-refundable, and transferable for a fee up to 2nd June, please follow the link on your confirmation email to process a transfer before the deadline. If you are unable to take part due to injury you can defer your entry to the following year on production of an official letter from your doctor or physio before the deferral deadline. Please see terms and conditions relating to deferrals. The deadline for medical deferrals is 4 weeks prior to the race date.
