Durham City Run Festival is partnering with Ecologic, a Gateshead-based renewable energy broker, to provide our runners with more sustainable packaging for water bottles at water stations and on the finish line at the festival events this year. We’re using tetra packs as a recyclable alternative to plastic water bottles.

‘Our plan is to be kinder to the world by transforming the energy industry for the better. We’re working hard to become a carbon neutral business in the near future and we made a pledge, invested in new tech, renewable energy and staff training to help us get there.

We’re a utility company but that doesn’t mean we have to act like one.

And that’s when the big idea hit…

We’re good people with good energy already doing good things and we can make the world a better place, meter by meter, if we can build on the good stuff we’re doing – like being fair, ethical and making every deal, switch and upgrade hassle-free.

And so we made a pledge to ourselves… Let’s do our bit to fight climate change and monitor our customers’ usage to help them do theirs (reducing bills as we go). Let’s support more local, global and grassroots causes and let’s set ourselves bigger, more ambitious goals – like producing our own eco-friendly green energy one day. Both UK businesses and the planet could do with a boost right now and our mission is to deliver it. Hands up, we’re not quite there yet but we’re on our way. And that’s why most of our energy goes into improving what we do so that ‘doing good’ can hopefully be our long-lasting footprint. Anyway, that’s our logic and it makes sense to us.’ – The Team at Ecologic.
