“Volunteering makes you feel really good inside!”
Our 10K EOTN Ambassador Mark has been out and about supporting runners and giving something back. Here’s his latest blog:
“Sometimes running isn’t always about going out and smashing your fastest time and getting a PB, this weekend I did something completely different and enjoyed it just as much as running myself.
On Saturday some of my friends took part in the St Cuthbert’s Way 45 mile race. They started in Wooler and finished in Melrose…..all in one day. I was pleased I could be on hand with a group of friends to support them and pop up at random points to make sure they were ok and had enough supplies to keep them going. The running community is such a nice environment that we didn’t just support the friends we had running in the event but any other runner that needed anything we could help them with. It really is nice to give something back and its the closest I’ll be to running 45 miles!
If you want to give something back and have some spare time why don’t you have a look on the website and volunteer at one of the events at the Durham City Run Festival. Its always a great experience and makes you feel really good inside!
On Tuesday I got back to a distance more suited to me, Bridges of the Tyne 5 mile race. I hadn’t planned to race it and after a busy day at work felt I’d just have a gentle run. Unfortunately my plans didn’t stay that way, I always have a little chat with club mates at the start and then get carried away with myself. I went off too fast (this is usual for me) and ended up running with another Mark. I looked down at my watch and after the first mile I was on target for a PB if I could just keep that pace. I decided to keep it going and managed to knock 10 seconds of my PB.
Now that we are in July its time to start focusing on the Prince Bishops Durham City Run 10k, it’s not long now so if you haven’t already entered get signed up. I’m also looking at what events I can squeeze in to the week as there is so much on!”-Mark Follow Mark on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/possiblerunner
