My name is Paul and I’m an ambassador for the Durham 10k on Thursday 16th July.
Throughout my life I’ve always been active, mostly playing football, but never competed in running events. Once I left university and started a family, time became precious and I struggled to find time to exercise. I found myself going out for runs. One of the main joys of going running was that my exercise wasn’t determined by when team training was, or what time the game kicked off, I was able to run on my own terms.
Fast-forward to today and I am hooked. I love the challenge that running can present. Whether it being a test of how fast or how far I can run, for me the joy comes from working hard to achieve my goals!!
Initially I started with running shorter distances, but then decided I wanted to push myself. I wanted to see how far I could run. Very soon my 5k races became 10k, then half marathons and I’ve now completed 4 marathons.
My goals for this year are to reduce the overall distances I run, but to improve the quality of each session. In turn, this focused approach to my training will hopefully deliver the PB’s over the 5k and 10k distances this year. It’s not going to be easy, but I am looking forward to the challenge.
