Fundraising

Do I have to collect sponsorship? Is there a minimum I must collect?

It is not compulsory to collect sponsorship to take part, this is entirely up to you. If you would like to run the event for a charity please contact your chosen charity directly. Most charities will be able to provide you with a fundraising pack and will let you know if they have a minimum fundraising target.

Where does my sponsorship and entry fee money go?

All monies raised for your chosen charity should be sent direct to that charity. Your entry fee contributes to the running of the event and pays for all the site infrastructure, equipment, T-shirts, medals, goody bag

Can I take part in the event but donate my sponsorship to an alternative charity?

Yes. Every runner is free to make their own choice if they would like to run for a personal charity close to them. Where you decide to donate is up to you.

On the Day

I don’t drive – can I get to the venue by public transport?

Durham train station is a 10 minute walk from the start area. There are also a number of bus routes through Durham City Centre, please see routes and timetables on the following link http://www.durham.gov.uk/busmap

Is there somewhere that I can park my car?

We are not aware of any Park and Ride services running on the day of the event. We recommend parking at County Hall, or in one of the city centre car parks (normal charges apply.)

Do I have to run the course?

We advise participants to run /jog or combine that with fast walking because of the length of time it would take to walk the course. However, there is no restriction at all if you would like to enter and walk

When will I get my running time?

Your race will be chip timed. The timing chip will give you an accurate start and finish time, so there’s no rush to be first over the start line when the gun goes! You will receive a text shortly after the event is completed and you result will be available online within 48 hours.

Can someone take my place?

A: Yes you can transfer your entry to another person before the transfer deadline (6 weeks prior to race date). Please login to your entry via your confirmation email to begin a transfer. After this date transfers are not permitted and giving your number to another person is against UK Athletics rules for health and safety reasons.

Can I volunteer at the event?

Yes. We’re looking for a large team of volunteers to help us with the delivery of the event. Please register you interest by e-mailing volunteers@eventsofthenorth.com

Why is there an entry fee?

The entry fee covers all the unavoidable administrative and organisational costs that make sure the Durham City Run events are safe and enjoyable.

I can’t run the race now can I have a refund?

Your entry fee is invested in the cost of staging the event with the fees covering contractors, suppliers and administration costs. The entry fee is non-refundable, and transferable for a fee up to 2nd June, please follow the link on your confirmation email to process a transfer before the deadline. If you are unable to take part due to injury you can defer your entry to the following year on production of an official letter from your doctor or physio before the deferral deadline. Please see terms and conditions relating to deferrals. The deadline for medical deferrals is 4 weeks prior to the race date.
